Overview

We are looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic for a growing team at a manufacturing and distribution company in Sanford, Florida. American Builders Supply is Florida’s largest independent supplier of lumber, truss, doors and windows. We provide building materials for the residential building market statewide with locations in Jacksonville, Sanford, Clermont, Melbourne, Winter Haven, Tampa and Fort Myers.

Under general direction, the purpose of the position is to perform highly technical and specialized skilled work involving the maintenance, diagnostics, rebuild and repair of diesel driven vehicles and equipment.  Employee functions at mid-senior level to perform complex work.

**Pay will be determined depending on work experience / qualifications of candidates.

Essential Functions

Looking for a motivated individual to add to our growing maintenance team that will perform and assist well with highly complex repairs, servicing, regular preventive maintenance, overhaul and repair services on our Heavy, Medium / Light duty vehicles, service equipment, mechanical equipment and other diesel driven platforms. 

Performs a wide variety of skilled mechanical work, diagnostics, repairing, servicing, adjusting engine with various related parts, related equipment, fuel and exhaust systems, ignitions systems, electrical and brake components, after treatment, transmissions, internal and external engine parts etc.

May be required to perform emergency road service to vehicles and equipment outside of the shop.

Ability to repair and weld using oxy-acetylene and electrical welding preferred.  Ability to do sheet metal repair to Dry-Van boxes.  Safely operates a wide variety of hand and power / air driver tools and equipment, e.g., grinders, hammers, sanders, drill presses, riveting, testing equipment etc.  

Conduct road tests with operation of various equipment, light and medium duty vehicles, mechanical equipment and other gasoline and diesel driven engines, forklifts, etc.

Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.

All employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma and/or GED.

Certificates of Training and/or current ASE certifications, CDL preferred, clean driving record, Valid Driver’s license

10+ years' experience in the repair and maintenance field of truck gasoline and diesel driven engines, and tools; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Additional Requirements

Thorough knowledge of the assembly, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of gasoline and diesel engines, light and medium duty trucks, mechanical equipment.

Physical demand requirements can be at times in-excess-of medium work. Physical agility is required with climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, laying and crawling within limited space.  Physical Demand: Moderate

100 pounds maximum lifting.

Frequent lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs common. 

Need to provide own mechanic’s tools of the trade.

Preferred to provide own diagnostic tools and software but not required.

Must be able to utilize software for diagnostic and troubleshooting
